Story is the one fundamental of human Civilization
From cave paintings to oral traditions, stories have always been passed down from generation from generation. It can sway minds, provide people will full emotional journeys and engage with you on a philosophical, societal, religious and intellectual level.
Storytelling truly is the noblest of arts. The simple act of sharing your vision, the unique way in which you see the world is the most vulnerable and beneficial thing you can do in your life.
They’ve been with you your entire life, from the first few fleeting moments of being cradled by your parents, listening to their soft voices.
They’ve helped shape who you are, teaching you values and ideas that have also gone on to help shape the world you live in today.
Stories enable you to create your own voice in this quickly-evolving post-modern life. Whether it’s writing down your thoughts, reading a poem aloud or giving a presentation, story is the key component to communication.
Brands don’t sell you products anymore, they tell you stories about the people using them.
Theater doesn’t get you to forget about your life, it gets you to think about problems in society or issues people face everyday.
Books aren’t a pastime, they are a source of wisdom, emotion and creativity.
“Stories can help you confront conflict, deal with the most painful of problems and give you the tools to express yourself in this digital world.”
Storytelling is the noblest of arts because it is the most important one and it is prevalent in every single aspect of our society.
Work. School. The Internet. Cinema. Sports. Everything.
We often fool ourselves with this notion that a story is just for entertainment, but it’s only one of the many functions… and a narrow perspective of the power of story.
To quote Pixar, “Story is King.”
And why is that?
In my opinion, I think it’s because an engaging story can bypass that horrible, cynical, twisted part of our adult brains and allow us to see the world from the perspective of a child again.
To experience wonder. Happiness. Sadness.
To feel lost, welcomed or good about yourself.
You’ll always find yourself feeling included, inspired and alive if you’re willing to share a story with others.
So, what are you waiting for? Begin your cycle of creativity and…
“Just remember that Storytelling is the Noblest of Arts.”
